No one wants to talk about a time they failed during a job interview, but chances are this question will come up in some way, shape or form in your next interview. You might even be asked, “tell me about a time you made a mistake” or “tell me about a time you made a bad decision.”

Interviewers ask this question because they want to see if you’ll own up to your mistakes and failures and if you’ve learned from them. I had a fearless leader once tell me that if you’re not making mistakes, you’re not doing your job. So don’t be afraid to answer this question honestly.

In this episode, you’ll learn how to use the STAR method to tell a compelling story to answer this popular interview question. And can I just say, the sample answer I share is soooooo good! The four steps you’ll learn more about in this video are:

Step 1: Choose a specific example of when you failed
Step 2: Show how and what you learned from your failure.
Step 3: Tell a story about your failure using the STAR method.
Step 4: Practice! Practice! Practice!
